We have talked about taking a road trip together since the beginning of our relationship and now that we are finally embarking on this first of many road trips together, we are really excited to share our experiences with our family and friends. Check out our daily adventure log to find out what we did each day of our trip.

We are still working out the exact route we want to take, but as we look through the travel books we got from AAA, we will narrow down exactly where we want to visit in the next couple of weeks. We know we definitely want to go to Zion National Park, but from there, we are still trying to decide where to go next. As of tonight, after we leave Zion, we will head to the Salt Lake area to check out some sights in the area. From there we will head back to the California coast and make our way back home. Of course we plan on stopping several times on the way to enjoy different cities and landmarks that interest us.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue working out the logistics for this trip.

We have officially decided the major points we want to hit on our trip. We want to make our first stop in Vegas. Experiencing the different hotel themes and ambiances in one of the main purposes we want to take a rest in Vegas. Zion is our next stop and hope to be able to experience the park for an entire day. Since we aren’t too far from Moab, we decided to go a little further east to take in the breathtaking sights Moab has to offer. Salt Lake City was the next logical spot to stop as it is a larger city and there is plenty to do there. Making our way back home, we plan on making one last stop to see Yosemite National Park. We wanted to pick places that neither one of us have been (except for Vegas), so once we had an idea of which places we absolutely wanted to visit, we planned our trip around those areas.

Next step is to set which days we are going to do what and also start researching places to stay overnight.

We’ve been working on the travel plans almost every night since it is coming up fast. We decided to add two more stops on our journey based on suggestions we have received from people we have told about our trip. We have heard we need to visit Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, so since it is on our way to Moab, we decided to add it to our road map. Our goal is to start our trip on Friday, September 28, but have decided to just go with the flow from there and return home sometime the following weekend. We have scoped out camping sites and places to stay overnight at each location, but we probably won’t stay overnight at each location considering we only have 8 days to complete our trip and a lot of places we want to stop.

With the trip only being two weeks away, Stefanie has started creating a packing list of what we will need to bring with us. Since we are taking her SUV, it is big enough for us to sleep in, which means we will be turning the back part of the car into a comfy bed for us to camp out in at night. She is already planning out where to put our belongings so we aren’t having to constantly move things around throughout our trip. We will be spending a lot of time in the car, so we want to make it as homey as possible and also have enough room for what we need to bring.

As we get closer to our departure date, we will keep you updated on more of how we are preparing for our adventure.

Today we started our road trip adventure. We were lucky enough to leave early enough in the afternoon that we did not hit any traffic heading to Las Vegas. We made great time, and decided to go a little farther towards Zion. We ended up in St. George, Utah so we wouldn't have to drive too far to Zion the next morning.

Saturday, September 29, 2018

We got up early and took the majestic, mountain filled hour drive to Zion. When we got there we parked along the road next to one of the campsites, exiting our car near a deer and her fawn. We hopped on the tram that delivers camperrs to trailheads and got off at the Emerald Pools. When we arrived at the start of the trail we discovered the middle and upper pools were closed due to unstable conditions, but we didn't mind because we were probably only going to hike to the lower pools. The hike was nice but it wasn't quite like we expected because the paths were made of concrete. Once we got to the pool the water was flowing and you could not help but get wet as you walked along the path. We spotted another deer on the trail but this time it was 5 feet in front of us.

After we were done with the hike, we headed back to the tram as we were both tired from the long day of travel the day before. The tram was nice because we could sit and enjoy the view of the park from the comfort of the bench seats. We were originally going to head to Bryce Canyon next, but came to the conclusion that Bryce and Capitol Reef were similar to Zion. Starting our drive to Moab, we left the area and travelled along many country roads. It was dark when we arrived to Moab, so we ended the night by going online and looking at the different hikes we could explore the following morning.
